PROJECT QUIXOTE
Welcome to the Project Quixote website.
‘A tidal wave of data is approaching astronomy’ so say those responsible for the UK Astrogrid project. Astrogrid is part of the worldwide move towards a Virtual Observatory which will combine many individual astronomical databases into a single whole together with the tools to analyse such a vast amount of data.
Quixote is a project to create an on-line database of observations that have been submitted to the British Astronomical Association by its members. The dictionary defines ‘Quixote’ as an ‘Enthusiastic visionary, pursuer of lofty but impractical ideals’. It seemed an ideal name for a project which some may well think is too large, too complex, too pretty much everything. Nothing like confronting your demons right from the start !
This database is being hosted by Exeter University and I would like to thank Tim Naylor and John Rowe for their assistance.
